Henry Strikeouts 10 Lady'Backs Fall in Home Finale

FAYETTEVILLE-In the final home game of the 2005 season, freshman pitcher Katy Henry dominated in the circle for the University of Arkansas softball team, Wednesday, May 4, at Lady’Back Yard.

The Lady Razorbacks (19-40, 4-22) lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in nine innings to Mississippi (30-28, 10-20). Arkansas concludes the season at Alabama, Saturday, May 7.

The final game of the series was a pitcher’s dual as Henry (7-15) threw a complete game. She recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing only six hits. Mississippi junior pitcher Dana Brill only gave up four hits to the Lady’Backs.

Arkansas head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he was pleased with Henry’s performance on the mound even though the Lady’Backs lost their 13th one-run game of the year.

“Katy went out and did a great job,” Pinkerton said. “Katy Henry has established herself. We’ve just got to figure out how to win the close games.”

Mississippi broke the scoreless tie in the ninth inning when the Rebels took a 1-0 lead on one hit and one error. Senior catcher DeDe Justice scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Lady’Backs attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning when junior center fielder Mindy O’Malley hit a leadoff double but Arkansas was unable to score.
