FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas senior Alonzo Highsmith is on the College Football Performance Awards Linebacker Trophy Watch List, it was announced Monday.
Highsmith started all 13 games in 2011 and finished the year first on the team and 10th in the SEC with 12.5 tackles for loss. The Missouri City, Texas, native recorded 80 tackles, including 12.5 for loss with 4.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and one pass breakup. His sack total was second on the team, and his tackle total ranked third on the team. He is one of 41 linebackers across the nation, and one of five from the SEC, to be included on the watch list.
The goal of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Former Arkansas wide receiver/punt returner Joe Adams was the winner of the 2011 CFPA Punt Returner Trophy, and former UA quarterback Ryan Mallett was the 2009 CFPA National Performer of the Year.
