FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ tennis team closes its regular season with a pair of home matches this weekend as the No. 27 Razorbacks play host to No. 40 South Carolina on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and No. 9 Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both matches will be played at the UA Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The Razorbacks are 13-7 overall while South Carolina is 14-10 and Florida is 13-6.
Head coach Robert Cox’s club is led by a pair of ranked singles players. Sophomore Adrians Zguns is No. 19 in the country with a 31-8 record and has won his last four matches. Senior Nathan Price, who will be playing his final home match on Sunday and will be recognized following the completion of the doubles matches, is 28-11 and ranked No. 83.
UA’s lineup also includes junior Imraan Ismail (17-13), and sophomores Rohan Gajjar (15-13) and Matt Roberts (15-14).
Price teams with freshman Matt Simpson to form the 45th-ranked doubles team in the country at 8-9. Ismail and Roberts are 10-7, and Gajjar and Zguns are 8-6.
South Carolina, which started the year 10-0 but has lost seven of its last nine matches, is led by a trio of 20-match winners in Tom Eklund (21-9), Geraldo Knoor (22-10) and Carl Wermee (20-12).
Florida, which was ranked at high as No. 3 earlier this season, also features a pair of ranked singles players. Hamid Mirzadeh is No. 7 in the nation with a 14-7 record while Vladimir Obradovic is No. 59 with a 24-8 record. Florida’s lineup also includes Ryan Sherry (20-13) and Chris Brandi (19-14). Mirzadeh and Brandi (12-8) are ranked No. 29 in doubles.
The Gators, who play at LSU on Friday, have won three straight.
Following this weekend’s matches, Arkansas competes in the Southeastern Conference Tournament next week at Vanderbilt.
