FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas tennis team takes a break from Southeastern Conference action Wednesday, traveling to Tulsa for a regional match-up with 44th-ranked Tulsa University.
The No. 70 Razorbacks (3-10, 1-5 in SEC) are fresh off a weekend split of conference matches in Fayetteville. UA knocked off then-No. 40 Vanderbilt Friday, 4-3, and was two tiebreak points away from taking down 18th-ranked Kentucky Sunday. The Hogs fell to the Wildcats, 4-3.
Arkansas is led by a trio of juniors at the top of the lineup. Rohan Gajjar is currently the only Hog ranked by the ITA (No. 57). The native of Mumbai, India has moved into the top spot in the Razorback lineup with a 17-10 overall record. Gajjar also sports a 7-6 spring mark, a 3-3 SEC tally and has notched five wins against ranked competition. Fellow juniors Adrians Zguns and Matt Roberts are having solid seasons as well for UA. Zguns has won his last three matches and is 13-9 overall. The Liepaja, Latvia native is 8-5 this spring and 3-3 in the SEC. Roberts is the hottest Hog, recording wins in five consecutive matches. The Little Rock product boasts a record of 22-6 overall and is 9-4 this spring. Roberts is also an impressive 5-1 in SEC matches.
Tulsa (11-8) is coming off a 7-0 loss at Texas A & M on March 22. Since 1985, the Razorbacks led the series with the Golden Hurricane, 15-0. UA and TU last met October 31, 2004 in an ITA Region V Playoff match in Fayetteville, with the Hogs winning 4-0.
Wednesday’s dual-match is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
The Razorbacks return home Friday for an SEC contest with 14th-ranked Mississippi State. Action begins at 1:30 p.m. at the UA Outdoor Tennis Complex in Fayetteville. The Tennis Complex is located behind the Dills Indoor Tennis Center across from Bud Walton Arena on Razorback Road.
