TULSA, Okla. – After winning their opening round match a day ago, senior Taj Harrison and sophomore Mike Nott of the Arkansas men’s tennis team, were ousted in the second round of the doubles draw at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Sunday.
The match with Minnesota’s Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn ended in an 8-4 decision in favor of the Golden Gophers and thus ends the tournament for the Razorbacks. Throughout the entire tournament, Arkansas racked up seven wins in both singles and doubles.
“All in all, it was a solid tournament from Manfred (Jeske), Mike (Nott) and Taj (Harrison), “Arkansas head coach Robert Cox said. “Mike came up big in the first round of the main draw of singles and those kinds of wins are the kind we look for in the fall when we are working on things.”
Nott had the most wins of the three Hog players as he notched two wins in the qualifying rounds and one in the opening round of the main draw. That first round win was the biggest of the weekend as it came against the No. 84 player in the nation, Peerakit Siributwong of Oklahoma. So far this season, Nott holds a 5-6 record in singles.
The first round doubles win for Nott and Harrison was their second of the season and pushes their record to 2-4. Coach Cox commented after the day’s play of how the Hogs’ doubles continues to play strong heading into the final month of the fall season.
“Taj and Mike played some good doubles this weekend and carried on our doubles success this fall,” Coach Cox said. “We look forward in our continued climb with great play next week at the UNLV Invite.”
The men’s tennis team returns to the courts on Friday in Las Vegas for the UNLV Invite. The tournament will run through Sunday.
