Hog Golfers Finish Seventh at SEC Championships

ST. SIMON ISLAND, Ga.The Arkansas men’s golf team turned its best round of the weekend in the third and final round of the SEC Golf Championships to finish seventh at the Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course on Sunday.

The Razorbacks shot a 6-over-par 286 on Sunday on the challenging 6,991-yard, par-70 Seaside layout to finish at 29-over-par 869. The Hogs finished just one shot behind sixth-place LSU and beat 25th-ranked Tennessee (9th, +35 875) and 39th-ranked South Carolina (8th, +32 872).

Top-ranked Georgia fought off No. 3 Florida to capture the SEC Championship with a 13-under-par total of 827, one shot better than the Gators. Both teams shot 11-par 269 in Sunday’s final round, preserving the Bulldogs one-stroke lead entering the day.

Florida’s Brett Stegmaier captured medalist honors as Georgia’s Kevin Kisner triple-bogey on the 18th hole to break a tie at the top and almost cost the Bulldogs the team title.

Scotty Campbell was the Hogs’ top finisher at 6-over-par 216 after a 73 on Sunday that left him in a tie for 23rd position.

Matt Bortis made a hard charge from behind over the final 18 holes with an even-par 70 to bounce back after a tough second round. Bortis finished tied for 27th place at 7-over-par 217, which is the best score the junior has put up at the SEC Championships.

Eric Shriver turned in another solid outing in round three with a 1-over-par 71 to join Bortis in a tie for 27th place. He opened with a 75 in the first round, but bounced back with 71s on the final 36 holes.

Josh Farrell was close behind at 9-over-par 219 after a 2-over-parf 72 on Sunday. He also turned in two solid rounds after a rough first-18 holes. Farrell shot a 77 in round one but came back with a 70 on Saturday and a 72 on Sunday.

Will Osborne’s 81 on the final 18 holes left him in 60th place at 26-over-par 236.
