Hog Tennis Takes Down Wichita State 6-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorback tennis team won its third straight match with a 6-1 victory over Wichita State Friday at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. With the win, Arkansas improves to 3-2 on the season while the Shockers’ record evens out at 1-1.
The UA netters earned the first point of the dual by taking two of the three doubles matches. Blake Strode and Colin Mascall made quick work of Tiago Espirito Santo and Jonathan Obrist, 8-2, at the top spot. Matt Hogan and Taylor King teamed for the first time this season and beat Adrian Chermaci and Matt Teivans, 8-4, to seal the doubles point for the Hogs.
Strode continued his strong showing with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Santo at the No. 1 singles position. On court 6, Bradwin Williams followed suit and defeated Teivans, 6-3, 6-4, to give Arkansas a 3-0 advantage.
Freshman Chris Nott, playing at the No. 3 position, clinched the match for the Razorbacks with his 6-4, 6-3 win against Thiago Dos Santos. The victory is Nott’s team-leading 15th of the season. Hogan, the mid-season addition from Australia, defeated Jonathan Obrist, 7-6(6), 6-3, on court 4. Mascall, the Hogs’ lone senior, topped Albert Ballesta, 6-4, 6-4.
Wichita State’s point came at the No. 5 position where Chermaci beat Dmitry Lebedev, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(4), in the last match on court.
The Razorbacks will return to action Sunday with a doubleheader against Purdue and Cowley County with the matches scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. Log on to www.hogwired.com for live stats and complete results.
