Hogs Capture Gold Medals at NACAC Championship

QUEBEC, Canada – Two Razorbacks claimed three gold medals for the United States in their respective events at the North America Central America Caribbean (NACAC) Track and Field Championships over the weekend. The NACAC Championship meet includes competition from the top two athletes from 28 other countries in each event between the ages of 20-23. For the three Arkansas athletes chosen it was their first time to represent the United States on an international level.
Freshman and NCAA champion Wallace Spearmon Jr. took the tape in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.59, after posting a 20.71 in the prelims. Spearmon was also a member of the winning 4×100-meter relay team that put together a performance of 39.03. He was on the second leg of Team USA, while Wes Felix (Southern California), Kyle Farmer (Florida) and Ernest Wiggins (Appalachian State) comprised the rest of the relay.
Sophomore All-American Eric Brown registered a quality throw of 239-10.5 in the javelin to capture top honors. His U.S. teammate, Connecticut’s Paul Pisano, was second with 230-10.5.
Junior All-American James Hatch was entered in the 800 meters and he finished seventh (1:51.70). In the preliminary heat he was third with a time of 1:50.90. His U.S. teammate, Marc Sylvestor (Tennessee) brought home first place (1:48.60).
