Hogs Continue to Improve During Spring Practic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorbacks practiced for two hours in the Walker Pavilion on Tuesday during day seven of spring football. The Hogs have continued to use this time to get better and Coach Nutt was quick to point out the improved passing game.
“We did a better job of catching the football today,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “We put a lot of emphasis on it. The quarterbacks threw better and we needed that.”
Arkansas has been forced to practice without the luxury of a completely healthy offensive line. The Hogs will not hold a short scrimmage on Thursday as originally planned after they lost another offensive lineman, sophomore Matt Gilbow, to a sprained right knee on Tuesday.
Other linemen missing practice include junior Chase Pressley who suffered a concussion on Monday. Freshman Michael Tate and sophomore Fred Bledsoe tried to participate in the first part of practice, but did not stay the entire time.
“The offensive line keeps getting thinner and thinner,” Nutt said. “The ones we do have, like Kyle Roper, Robert Felton, Stephen Parker and Tyler Morgan, those guys are really giving an extra effort.”
On the defensive side Vickiel Vaughn had an excellent practice and Nutt praised the senior strong safety for his leadership and effort.
“Vickiel Vaughn on defense really showed up today and continues to get better,” Nutt said. “Vaughn had excellent winter workouts. You can just tell, there’s a different look about him. He’s more mature and he’s leading our team. He’s been very physical and makes good tackles.”
Nutt can already see a significant difference in his team from when they began workouts last week and is pleased with the Razorbacks’ progression.
“There is a big change, because they’re gaining more confidence and they see themselves improving,” Nutt said. “Anytime someone sees themselves improving and they see the film it’s a good feeling. That’s what spring football is all about.”
Wednesday will be an off day for the football team. The Hogs will return to the practice fields on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
