FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorbacks kicked off their opening game week with a Monday practice in hot conditions on the practice fields behind Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Following the day’s practice head coach Houston Nutt announced that the team had elected captains for the year.
“The team has elected our captains,” Nutt said. “The captains are Jermaine Brooks, Raymond House, Sparky Hamilton and Fred Talley. We also did something different this year in adding a few more guys from our special teams. They are Richie Butler and Chuck Nalley. All of them are very deserving and I’m proud of all of them.”
Nutt was pleased with the teams work on the day.
“We worked very well today,” Nutt said. “They came today with a work-like attitude. This is probably the longest we’ve had to wait for a game. After watching everyone else play, our guys are very excited about playing [this week].”
Nutt is happy about the progress of players (Josh Melton, Brandon Holmes and Eddie Jackson) who went down earlier in the month with injuries. Nutt noted the progress of Melton in the day’s practice.
“There is nothing like getting your players back on the field,” Nutt said. “It’s a good feeling and we want them to stay on the field. Melton did a lot of good things today in practice. He didn’t go through a whole workout, but he still did some great things. He was moving around and looked really good.”
Fred Talley missed the day’s practice with an upset stomach while Brandon Kennedy suffered a sprained right ankle during the day’s practice.
The Razorbacks pop the lid off their season on Saturday, Sept 7, when they host the Boise State Broncos at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Kickoff is at 6pm.
