Razorbacks Hammer UConn

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. – Behind a 24-point effort from senior guard Jaylen Barford, the Arkansas men’s basketball team improved to 5-1 Sunday with a 102-67 win over the UConn Huskies in the PK80 third-place game.

Arkansas got out on the Huskies early, going up 11-3 at the first media timeout. The Razorbacks were able to hold UConn to 1-of-7 from the floor to build their lead, holding the Huskies without a made basket for four-plus minutes to start the contest.

Arkansas found its shot early, hitting 12 of its first 17 shots. Arkansas’ guards did a good job of getting involved on the boards and pushing the ball, as the three senior guards were responsible for seven of Arkansas’ first 14 rebounds.

Both teams took care of the ball in the opening period, but Arkansas controlled the boards, outrebounding the Huskies 22-13. After leading by as many as 20 in the first half, Arkansas would take a 14-point advantage to the locker room, leading UConn 45-31 at the break.

After opening the game scoring the first five points for the Razorbacks, senior guard Jaylen Barford scored eight of Arkansas’ first 12 in the second half, including the first six, to stretch Arkansas’ lead back to 16 with 13:50 left in the game.

Arkansas would use a 5:36 scoring drought by UConn to go on a 19-0 run, its longest run of the season, to claim a 72-41 lead.

A big part of the run was Arkansas’ ability to share the ball and getting out and run, creating high-percentage shots. Arkansas shot 65.4 percent in the second half, hitting a streak of 10 straight shots.

Next up, the Razorbacks will travel to Houston to take on the Houston Cougars on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
