Hogs Lose to Cajuns 4-3 in Non-conference Batt

LAFAYETTE, La. — Arkansas (4-6, 2-3 SEC) lost a tough non-conference battle against No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette Sunday afternoon 4-3.
“We got behind in doubles and it hurt us,” head coach Robert Cox said. “We could not come up with the doubles point and it hurt us.”
Freshmen Aleksey Bubis and Eduardo Pacheco were the only doubles team to pick up a win in No. 2 doubles. The duo of Brad Berry and Chris Campbell at No. 3 doubles were up 6-2 but could not hold on for the victory.
“I was really proud of the way that we continually fought to win the match,” Cox said. “We were a little down after the doubles matches, but we showed a lot of spirit out on the court in singles.”
Arkansas played four of the six matches to three-set games. Fifth-ranked Oskar Johansson played Eduardo Gordilho to a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 match but could not come up with the victory.
Junior Henrik Tofft, who is ranked 93rd, continued to prove himself at the No. 2 position in the lineup winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over ULL’s Michal Jordan.
Magnus Kullenberg picked up an impressive win over Jakun Ilowski 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Pacheco, who also won in doubles, edged out Bernard Kaczorowski 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 for the Hog’s third singles win of the afternoon.
The Hogs will next play Mississippi State March 17, at 2 p.m. in Fayetteville.
