FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Last week at the ITA Indoor Championships played in Louisville, Ky., Arkansas went 1-2 beating San Diego State and losing to California and Southern California.
The win, coupled with losses to two top-20 programs, moved Arkansas up one spot in the current ITA team rankings to No. 27. Only Mississippi State ranks behind the Hogs in the current rankings at No. 36 among SEC schools. The rest of the SEC can be found ranked higher with Florida leading the charge as the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. Florida comes off of a strong appearance at the ITA Indoor Championships losing to eventual champion and top-ranked Illinois.
After a strong start to the 2003 spring season with a mark of 8-0, freshman Rohan Gajjar finds a spot in the ITA singles rankings. At the ITA Indoor Championships, Gajjar improved his record by winning two matches against Southern California and San Diego State University. The ITA ranking procedures switched from a ranking committee to being done through computer this week and the process has found Gajjar to be ranked No. 102.
After switching to a computer based ranking process, previous success in tournaments go un-rewarded and now only rankings are based solely on wins and losses. As a result, seniors Aleksey Bubis and Eduardo Pacheco fell from the rankings after being ranked in the fall and some of the spring.
