Hogs Move Up to No. 1 in Latest Trackwire Rank

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After staying in the third-place spot for the first two weeks of the outdoor season, the Arkansas track and field team moved up to the No. 1 spot in this week’s Trackwire Top 25 rankings.
“It’s always nice to be ranked No. 1, but it doesn’t count until the end of the year,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “We look good right now, but we’ll have to keep it up until the end of the season.”
The Razorbacks were given 50 points after they had an outstanding weekend performance, winning four individual titles and earning 14 new NCAA regional qualifying times and marks at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Those 50 points were enough to squeeze past the formerly top-ranked Auburn Tigers, who now have 48 points and a second place showing. Tennessee is close behind with 46 in third place.
Mississippi State is fifth with 42 points. LSU tallied 35 points to put themselves in sixth. South Carolina is eighth (30) and Georgia rounded out the top 10 with 26 points.
The Trackwire rankings are a power ranking of NCAA Division I track and field teams. This ranking’s methodology takes into account a variety of statistical predictors and is intended to project the outcome of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held in Sacramento, Calif., on June 11-14.
