Hogs Take Series from Ole Miss with 10-3 Win
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-3 win over No. 16 Ole Miss Sunday in the finale of a three-game Southeastern Conference series at Baum Stadium.

The Razorbacks (18-19, 5-10 SEC) won the series 2-1 for their sixth-consecutive series victory over the Rebels (25-10, 10-5 SEC), ranked 16th by Baseball America and Baseball Weekly.

UA starter Jeremy Rankin (2-2) scattered three hits and gave up three runs in five innings of work to earn the victory. Josh Merryman earned his second save with four innings of scoreless, two-hit relief. Rebel starter Ronnie Goodwin (4-2) was rocked for all 10 UA runs (six earned) on 11 hits and took the loss.

Arkansas scored all it would need in the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate for seven runs. The Hogs got five hits in the frame, including a three-run double by Jeff Hoefler, and took advantage of UM second baseman Matt Tolbert’s two errors.

The Rebels scored two runs in the second, including an RBI double by Kris Cox. Glen Morris hit a solo home run in the fourth for Ole Miss’ other run, his second homer of the year and second in as many games.

Brian Kirby led off the Hogs’ half of the second inning with his fourth home run of the year and 34th of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth on the Razorbacks’ career homer list. Brett Hagedorn followed three batters later with an RBI single for a 9-2 Arkansas advantage.

Tigger Lyles capped the Razorback scoring and chased Goodwin with a lead-off homer in the fifth inning, his second of the year.

Kirby extended his hitting streak to a season-best eight games while Ole Miss’ Lance Jones saw his hitting streak snapped at nine games.

Arkansas will travel to Norman, Okla., on Tuesday to take on Oklahoma. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at OU’s L. Dale Mitchell Park. Ole Miss will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., Tuesday to face Southern Miss in a 6:30 p.m. CT game.
