Hogs capture All-SEC honors

FAYETTEVILLE- The Southeastern Conference announced its 2010 All-SEC teams, with two Razorbacks making the list as junior Anouk Tigu was named All-SEC First team joined by Kelsey Sundaram was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team.
“We are very proud of both Anouk and Kelsey for these awards,” Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty said, “They have both been catalyst for us all season, and I am confident the best is ahead for both of them.”
Tigu earns All-SEC honors for the second consecutive year for her achievements this season. She had previously earned Second-Team honors as a sophomore last season with 25 wins in singles matches.
Ranked 46th in the nation in singles, Tigu has acted as a leading force for the Hogs providing an impressive 15-9 overall record at the top of the lineup. She has helped the Hogs with wins over seven nationally ranked players including, No. 45 Fani Chifchieva of Auburn, top 16-player Denise Chan of Washington and Alexa Guarachi of Alabama.
Sundaram became the first Razorback to earn ALL-SEC Freshman team accolades. A native of New Braunsfel, Texas, Sundaram put together one of the finest seasons entering the SEC tournament with five consecutive singles victories and an 8-2 SEC record. She leads the team with 26 singles victories.
In her first dual match against Washington, Sundaram foreshadowed her season success after dropping the first set 6-0 to come back to win the match against Samantha Smith, 0-6, 6-4, 6-1. Highlighting the season, she earned the Hogs first team point in seven matches and with partner Kate Lukomskaya, the duo shutout their opponents 8-0 in over seven matches.
“The SEC had been exceptional this season which makes these recognitions all the more special.” Hegarty said.
Next up, the Hogs will find out where the team slates in the NCAA Tournament Field. The NCAA Women’s Tennis Selection Show will be Tuesday, May 4th on ESPN News.
