STILLWATER, Okla.- The 2009 NCAA South Central Regional Championships concluded on Saturday. Tournament host Oklahoma State won the title with a 17-over 881(296-289-296). The No. 9 ranked University of Arkansas men’s golf team finished in second place with a 39-over 903(298-301-304). “Second again, this makes five in a row now,” head coach Brad McMakin stated. “It was a good week, and we were excited to place where we did. It was an extremely difficult day out there and the scores were high, but the boys were able to hang in there.”Tennessee-Chattanooga carded a 43-over 907(298-300-309). Northwestern and TCU tied at fourth with 50-over 914, (302-302-310) and (299-310-305) respectively. The top five teams and the top five individuals not playing as a part of teams will advance to the NCAA National Championships to be held May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway jumped from a tie a fifth place to take the individual title by a stroke from fellow Cowboy Peter Uihlein with a even to par 216(74-72-70). Baylor’s Cody Paladino beat LSU’s John Peterson on the second playoff hole (hole #10 on the course) to earn an individual spot in the NCAA Championships.Razorback golfer David Lingmerth ended his run at the tournament in a tie for fifth place after a three round series of 74 to finish at 6-over 222. “David played very well for us and Jason really stepped up to help put us in position to take second,” McMakin said. “Oklahoma State is solid so it was difficult to go in and play such a good team on their home course, but I think our team competed against them fairly well.”Ethan Tracy tied for 13th place carding a 10-over 226(71-76-79). Andrew Landry finished tied for 25th with a 12-over 228(75-75-78). Jamie Marshall and Jason Cuthbertson again tied with each other moving up to No. 37 with 18-over 234(82-76-76) and (78-80-76).“We look forward to our appearance at the Finals next week. There will be some great competition there. We have a lot of work to prepare for a different kind of golf course,” McMakin said adding, “You know, if we happened to pull out another second place finish, I think we would be pretty happy with that.”
