Hogs compete at Purdue Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The No. 18-ranked University of Arkansas swimming and diving team will wrap up its fall schedule this weekend when the squad visits West Lafayette, Ind., for the Purdue Invitational at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Last time out, sophomores Katie Whitbeck, Lisa Lunkenheimer and Katie Davis each won two events to lead the Razorbacks (4-1, 2-1 SEC) over Vanderbilt at Arkansas Natatorium, Nov. 6. Fourteen event wins carried the Hogs to a 206-87 defeat of the Commodores, giving Arkansas its second conferece victory.

“This meet is going to be a fun meet and a very competitive meet,” Arkansas coach Jeff Poppell said. “The teams that are going to be there are all top 25 caliber teams. When you look down the rankings from 15 to 25, I feel like anybody can beat anybody on a given week, and that is what we are in for with the competition this week. Each school has its strength and weaknesses, so I think it is going to be a back and forth swimming competition.”

This year’s Purdue Invitational features 15th-ranked Louisville, 17th-ranked Michigan, Missouri State and Ohio State. The host Boilermakers are ranked 22nd. This weekend marks the fifth occurrence of the event, which began in 1989.

The event begins Friday and continues through Sunday. The preliminary session begins each day at 10 a.m. Eastern time, with finals beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
