Hogs dominate doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE– The No. 53 Arkansas Razorbacks (8-4) stormed the courts with authority this weekend with wins over UMKC and Johnson County Community at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville. The Hogs won all 12 singles and six double matches this weekend.

Against UMKC, freshman Gregoire Lehmann started the fire for the Hogs in singles play defeating David Heckler, 6-1, 6-1. The momentum continued as the Bradwin Williams and Taylor King picked wins at the No. 6 and No. 3 position. Standout freshman Mike Ward dominated Erwin Quintanilla at the No. 5 position not giving up a single game.

Highlighting the match was sophomore Matt Walters at the No. 2 singles position. Walters dropped the first to Serge Ristivojevic but rallied back to win the second set and force a tiebreaker. Walters smashed a winner down the line to take the match in a tight tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(6)Arkansas’ success continued Johnson C.ommunity College C.C. Williams earned the Hogs first singles point with a win over Niklas Sparr, 6-2, 6-0. Ward and Lehmann followed with wins at the No. 4 and No. 2 singles positions. Nicholas Spinazze overpowered Christopher Copenhav winning at the No. 6 singles position, 6-1, 6-2. Walters took control of the match against Tim Akhmedov owning the Cavalier in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

King moved to the No. 1 position against JCCC and wrapped up the Hogs perfect weekend with a win over Evan Sanna, 6-2, 6-0.

In double action, the Hogs extending their doubles point victories to eight for the season, winning all six doubles matches on Saturday. The freshman duo of Ward and Lehmann wasted no time winning the first match of the day against Quintanilla and Hecker of UMKC, 8-2. Lebedev and Walters clinched the doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Berryman and Patrick Smith at the No. 1 doubles position. The Hogs stormed back to the courts picking up quick wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The senior tandem of King and Williams moved into the No. 1 position defeating Sanna and Radulovic of JCCC, 8-2. The Hogs will start conference play next weekend against No. 8 Florida and No. 42 South Carolina in Fayetteville to be held at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. Arkansas is scheduled to first set against the Gamecocks 1:30 p.m. on March 5 and then will return Sunday to face the Gators at Noon.
