LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Arkansas softball team (2-1) came up short against host Louisiana-Lafayette (3-0) 14-1 in its first of scheduled two games in the 25th Annual Louisiana Classics on Saturday at Lamson Park.
"We knew going in that we were going to have to play to our full potential today," head coach Mike Larabee said. "They out played us today, I didn’t think we competed as well as yesterday, but we will come out and play at a better level later today."
The Cajuns picked up five runs off two home runs before Layne McGuirt halted the Ragin’ Cajuns with the final out. Sophomore Courtney Breault came up with the only run for the Razorbacks crossing the plate after she walked onto first. The Hogs got on the board in the second courtesy of a wild pitch to bring in Breault and make the score 5-1.
The Cajuns cushioned their lead by adding three runs in the top of the fourth and picked up six more runs in their half of the fifth inning to bring the final score 14-1.
The Razorbacks return to the field this afternoon for a scheduled first pitch at 5:30.
