AUBURN, Ala. – Today the Hogs faced players from the No. 41-ranked Mississippi Bulldogs and finished the day with two singles and three doubles wins.
"We had a good solid day,"said head coach Robert Cox. "It felt good to get back on the court and knock off the rust. I was really pleased with how we played."
Senior Chris Nott was victorious against James Chaudry in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1. Both Matt Hogan and Matt Walters took their opponents to three sets as well, but fell in their final sets. Gregoire Lehmann, Nikolas Zogaj and Taj Harrison were defeated in two sets. In the final match of the day, Hall Fess took Antonio Lastre to three sets and defeated him, 7-6, 6-7, 10-4.
"The players from Mississippi State are a very talented and well coached, and to come away with three doubles wins is great for our team," said Cox. "It was good to be back on the court competing again, and we competed well."
In doubles play, the Razorbacks were victories in three of four matches against the Bulldogs. Arkansas’s No. 56-ranked duo Mike Ward and Nikolas Zogaj defeated Cant and Stropp, 9-8. Matt Hogan and Matt Walters defeated No. 53 Coupland and Ilyushin, 8-5. Gregoire Lehmann and Chris Nott fell to Chaudry and White, 8-5. Hall Fess and Taj Harrison were also victorious against Lastre and Stump, 8-6.
The Razorbacks have two more days of play and 24 more matches in Auburn. Tomorrow, the Hogs will face players from the No. 31 Auburn Tigers at 2 p.m.
