Hogs fourth after diving

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Arkansas finished the diving portion of the 2011 Southeastern Conference Championship in fourth place with 50 points after the platform finals on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

Junior Liana Bugslag and freshman Kesha Naylor picked up big points for the Razorbacks after finishing sixth and seventh on the tower, respectively.

Bugslag finished sixth in prelims with 249.65 and came back to finish sixth in the finals competition with 247.30. Naylor was fifth during prelims on Sunday morning and finished seventh in finals with a score of 228.25.

"My goal coming in here to SECs was top three," diving coach Dale Schultz said. "I think we need to have people step up a little bit, and today on platform we didn’t have people step up. I am very proud of Liana Bugslag and Kesha Naylor on all three events and Alex Roman on springboard."

The 50 points that the Razorback divers scored is the most at a championship meet under the direction of the current coaching staff.

"I think we are heading in the right direction in terms of rebuilding this program," Schultz said. "If we are going to continue to go in the right direction, we just need to have everybody step up so we can make a run at South Carolina, Florida and Auburn."

The Razorback swimmers head to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the SEC Championships beginning Feb 11. The swim portion of the conference meet lasts until Feb 19. Prelims for the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay kick off the second half of the championships on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
