Hogs gear up for doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.
— The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team kicks off its 2010 dual-match schedule with a doubleheader on Saturday, against Saint Louis University and Oklahoma State at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. The Razorbacks will go head-to-head with the Cowgirls at 1 p.m., before its 5 p.m. showdown against Bilikens. The Hogs are coming off a strong fall tournament season and are ready to get the season underway.
The Hogs enter the season ranked No. 19 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and will embark on a challenging schedule featuring highly touted schools, including No. 1 Tennessee, No. 7 Georgia, No. 10 Mississippi and No. 14 Kentucky.
The Hogs return five players from last season’s top 15 squad including junior Anouk Tigu and sophomore Kate Lukomskaya. Top returner Tigu finished the 2009 season boasting a 25-6 overall record. Fellow teammate Lukosmakaya boasted a 20-17 overall record. In the fall season, she earned a spot in the ITA Central Region finals with a 7-6, 6-3 defeat over Marie-Pier Huet of Oklahoma.
Saturday’s matches will begin the Hogs campaign to improve on their No. 19 preseason ranking and hope to earn their third consecutive Southeastern Conference Western Division title. Last season, the Hogs swept St. Louis with out surrendering a single game, winning the match, 7-0.
Sunday morning Saint Louis University and Oklahoma State will compete at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
