Finally, it’s game week. Saturday afternoon at 3pm, a new era of Razorback football begins. Louisiana is up first. The Ragin’ Cajuns have gone 18-8 the past two seasons and have won two straight New Orleans Bowls out of the Sun Belt conference. They return seven starters on each side of the ball, including quarterback Terrence Broadway, who set a school total offense record a year ago. Broadway completed 65 percent of his passes and was named MVP of the New Orleans bowl. He can run and he can throw. Their top four rushers return from last season. Defensively, they have a new coordinator and have switched to the 4-3 defense from a 3-4. Their most significant loss may be All-Sun Belt punter and kicker Bret Baer. Head Coach Mark Hudspeth has built a quality football program.
But they’ve got to play the Razorbacks, too, and the Hogs are ready to put on a show for their fans. The Razorbacks held a mock game Friday afternoon and will begin on field game preparations Sunday afternoon. Bret Bielema plans to use Monday as the NCAA-mandated off day during the season, and that will be the case this week.
Each season brings new questions, and there are plenty surrounding this Razorback team. Can Brandon Allen emerge in games as the pin point passer we’ve seen in camp? Can the line protect him? What about the defense? Can the strong, veteran defensive line put pressure on opposing quarterbacks? Will the young linebackers make plays? All legitimate questions, and all will begin to be answered this week. This team has put in the work, and they’re ready to put on a show for their fans.
Classes begin on the UA campus Monday. Fayetteville has become a very active place over the last week. It’s probably a good thing there’s no practice Monday so everyone can deal with academics.
There will be loads of activities in connection with the game this week, and you can find complete coverage at ArkansasRazorbacks.comGo Hogs!
