FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Friday, the Razorbacks host their first dual match of the season against the No. 67 UNLV Rebels at 5:30 p.m. at the Dills Indoor Stadium. The two teams have met in the past, most recently in 2005 and 2007. The Hogs fell to the Rebels in both of these meetings, but both matches were in Las Vegas.
"It’s going to be pretty intense tennis," said head coach Robert Cox. "Each team is on the rise and we all have very good players at the top of the lineup. We are healthy and ready to go. It’s going to be a great weekend."
The Hogs got into competition mode at the Auburn Invitational this past weekend, their final individual tournament, where they gathered 21 wins in singles and doubles. The Hogs also won 10 out of 12 doubles matches while in Auburn.
"Having good doubles is very important and it can translate into a victory, "said Cox. "It gives the team good confidence going into singles in a dual match. For us to do well, we are going to have to get that doubles point."
Cox also attributes the future improvement and success of the team to establishing their teamwork and chemistry.
"One of our goals on our last trip was team bonding and getting ready for this season, and everyone did their part," said Cox. "One of the things that is going to get us better results is having better team chemistry."
First serve for Friday’s match will be at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and a live blog will also be available. The Razorbacks are also at home on Sunday to host SMU at 1 p.m. A free kids clinic is scheduled for after the match on Sunday.
