Hogs set for final serve at Virginia Tech Challenge
FAYETTEVILLE
– The University of Arkansas men’s tennis will conclude the fall season at the 2009 Virginia Tech Challenge, to be held this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blackburg, Va. Senior Taylor King, senior Bradwin Williams, junior Matt Hogan, junior Chris Nott, junior Nicholas Spinazze, sophomore Matt Walters, sophomore Nikolas Zogaj, and freshman Mike Ward will represent the Razorbacks at the three-day tournament.
“I look forward to a good weekend of tennis, “ Arkansas head coach Robert Cox said. “This is a great opportunity to see where we are.”
Play in the flighted tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Friday with the last matches set to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday’s rounds begin at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The final rounds are scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. There will be four flights of doubles and eight flights of singles, each flight will have a winner. In Flight one consists of all the No. 1 players from each school, Flight Two all the No. 2 players and so on. The tournament will feature touted players from No. 27 Virginia Tech, No. 72 Mississippi State, and No. 65 Clemson.
On the double’s court, Hogan and Walters will be featured in the first flight, followed by Zogaj and King in flight 2. Ward and Nott will represent the Hogs in the third flight, while Williams and Spinazzee will compete in the fourth flight.
“This weekend tournament will be a great final exam for the fall semester,” Cox Said. “It will present tough competition against players from strong programs. Clemson, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech are quality teams with high-level tennis players.”
There is no team scoring, but the Razorbacks are playing against Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. ET on Friday.
