Hogs Split Matches Over Weekend in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – Three Razorback tennis players opened the 2005 fall season by splitting their matches over the weekend at the Wichita Intercollegiate Tennis Championship.

Junior Andrei Nicoara and sophomores Michael Jung and Jimmy Khougassian each won their opening match of the weekend before dropping their second. Nicoara and Khougassian teamed in doubles to split their two matches as well.

Nicoara took a straight-set win over Hurai Sedera of Oklahoma Christian, 6-3, 6-4, before falling to John Kellert of Missouri State, 4-6, 7-6, 10-5.

Jung defeated Daniel Scholten of the College of Santa Fe, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. The product of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. then fell, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, to Ricardo Lau of Graceland University.

Khougassian cruised to a, 7-5, 6-2, win over Andrew Plum of Washburn, but the Clamart, France native was knocked off by Thiago Dos Santos, 6-3, 6-2.

The pair of Nicoara and Khougassian opened with an 8-5 triumph over Francisco Branco and Santos, 8-5. They were then defeated by Missouri State’s Kellert and Jiri Spousta.

The Razorbacks return to action this Friday when they travel to Annapolis, Maryland for the Navy Invitational.
