Hogs travel to Tulsa

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark
. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team will travel to Tulsa, Okla. for the 2010 Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships this weekend. Competition will kick off Thursday with a roundof qualifying matches in the morning at the Micheal D. Case Center.
A collection of the best in the region will compete in the tournament, including players from Tulsa, OSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Wichita State. Arkansas Razorbacks Taylor King, Nicholas Spinazze,Mike Ward, and Nikolas Zogaj will each play a qualifying match on Thursday in hopes of advancing to the main draw, scheduled to start Friday.
First serve for the main draw is set for Friday morning, the Razorbacks will see action from No. 94 Chris Nott, Matt Hogan, Dmitry Lebedev, Matt Walters, and Bradwin Williams. Lebedev and Hogan met in the tothe round of 16 at last years tournament. Hogan went on to defeat Andrei Daescu of Oklahoma and Maor Zirkin of Drake to reach the finals where he lost to Tulsa’s Arnau Brugues.
In doubles, Arkansas will send the teams of No. 43 ranked Nott and Lebedev, Hogan and Walters, and King and Williams to the courts.
At last season’s tournament, Arkansas doubles team Hogan and former Razorback Blake Strode advanced to the semi-finals before losing to the No.10-ranked team from Oklahoma State, Nathan Byrnes and OleksandrNedovyesov.
The tournament will feature players from 19 schools, including eight nationally-ranked singles players, including the No.1 ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov of OSU and three nationally-ranked doubles team.
The ITA Wilson Central Regional Championships qualifying draw is schedule to begin Thursday, Oct. 22 with play in the main draw to follow on Friday. For complete results and more information visit: arkansasrazorbacks.com or www.tulsahurricane.com.
