#HogsCamp Practice 12: #TrenchHogs

Practice 12 took place this evening under the lights of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium as Arkansas continued to build for its season opener on Sept. 5 against UTEP. Tonight’s workout included two-minute drill and special teams work.

Three Takeaways

1. Oh My, Defensive Line
It’s really remarkable how good the defensive line has been during this fall camp. Everyone wants to talk about the loss of two NFL draft picks but there has seemingly been little to no drop-off. The depth up front is well documented and Razorback Foundation members and the media were able to see just how effective the unit was in Saturday’s scrimmage. That solid play has continued throughout this week and was incredible this evening.

Before the ball is even snapped, the Razorbacks look impressive up front. The starting four average 6-foot-3, 293 pounds. The second four? They measure 6-foot-3.5 and 294 pounds. Think about that for a moment. Then think about having to be an offensive lineman trying to move that guy out of the way. Or a quarterback trying to throw over them.

2. Two Minutes
Despite the excellent play by the defensive line tonight, the offense stepped up when it mattered most – inside two minutes. The ones had the first two-minute drill and methodically moved the ball down the field with a hurried pace. Inside the red zone, quarterback Brandon Allen found wide receiver Jojo Robinson along the left side for a touchdown that capped the day for the first team offense.

The second team got the next set of reps and had similar success. Quarterback Austin Allen hit wide receiver Damon Mitchell on a deep ball for another touchdown. The younger Allen has really impressed with his downfield throws this camp and connected multiple times this evening.

3. Captains
The team voted for captains last night and head coach Bret Bielema announced the team’s selections earlier today. Seniors Brandon Allen and Jonathan Williams will represent the offense while juniors Brooks Ellis and Ja’Michael Winston will lead the defense. Allen is the only returning captain from last year.
