Home Stand Continues Monday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team has picked up back-to-back Southeastern Conference wins and continues league action on Monday hosting Missouri in a 6 p.m. tip in Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks (13-6, 2-4 SEC) rallied in the fourth quarter to get the win over Vanderbilt on Thursday. They host the Tigers (13-7, 3-3 SEC) who scored 22 points in an overtime win against No. 25 Texas A&M earlier this week.

Freshman Jailyn Mason continues to shine for the Razorbacks. The first-year player from Mason, Ohio, has had consecutive double-digit scoring games including a 17-point effort in Arkansas’ most recent win. The two-time SEC Freshman of the Week averages 3.5 assists per game and has a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio. Both marks rank second by freshmen in the SEC this season.

Defensively, Arkansas ranks fourth in the SEC and 35th in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponent to 57.5 points per game. The Razorbacks rank fourth in the SEC in field-goal percentage defense (.371) and fifth in 3-point field-goal percentage defense (.290).

The Tigers enter Monday’s game having won two in a row in SEC play. Sophie Cunningham leads the team with 17.6 points per game and scored 36 in the win over the Aggies.

The Opponent
Missouri leads the SEC in all games with a .790 (297-376) mark from the free throw line – they are second in SEC-only games. The Tigers rank third in all games in field goal percentage defense with a .368 mark, just ahead of Arkansas who is fourth with .371. Missouri ranks second in the league averaging 6.7 3-pointers made per game. They lead the conference in SEC-only games with 8.7 makes per game.

Notable
• Arkansas is 28-13 in home games under head coach Jimmy Dykes. That mark includes a 9-3 record this season and an 11-8 record in conference home games.
• Arkansas has shot 45 percent or better in eight games this season. Arkansas shot 45 percent or better twice all of last season (30 games) and six times all of 2014-15 (32 games). Arkansas is now 16-0 when shooting 45 percent or better under head coach Jimmy Dykes.
• Arkansas has won the rebounding battle in 14 of 19 games this season, going 12-2 in those games and improving to 35-9 when winning the rebounding battle under head coach Jimmy Dykes.
• Arkansas has had six different players score in double figures in the first half of games this season: Jessica Jackson (five times), Malica Monk (two times), Keiryn Swenson (two times), Alecia Cooley, Devin Cosper, and most recently, Jailyn Mason who scored 13 first-quarter points at Alabama and had 10 points during the first 20 minutes against Vanderbilt.

Looking Ahead
Arkansas is in the midst of hosting four of it’s next five games in Bud Walton Arena. The Razorbacks welcomed Vanderbilt and Missouri this week, travel to LSU on Jan. 29, and return home for back-to-back home games against Georgia (Feb. 2) and No. 5 South Carolina (Feb. 25).

Arkansas will also host Kentucky on Feb. 16 and Auburn on Feb. 26.
