ARLINGTON, Texas. – Nebraska jumped to a 7-0 lead and never looked back as the Cornhuskers defeated Arkansas 13-2 in game five of the Arlington Morning News Invitational.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Nebraska (4-2) since losing two-consecutive games to open the season. Arkansas (4-3) suffered its second-consecutive loss.
NU starter Shane Komine (1-0) held the Razorbacks hitless and scoreless through the first four innings. UA starter Charlie Isaacson (1-1) yielded four runs (three earned) in three innings and suffered the first collegiate loss after starting his Razorback career with 10-straight wins without a loss.
After taking a 1-0 lead on a passed ball in the second inning, Nebraska jumped to a 4-0 lead on Justin Cowan’s three-run homer in the third. Cowan’s home run was just the third allowed by Isaascon in his two seasons at Arkansas.
John Cole led the Cornhuskers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Six different Razorbacks had one hit each, including a fifth-inning single by Jack Welsh that extended hit hitting streak to seven games.
Arkansas returns to Fayetteville to open an 11-game homestand on Tuesday when the Hogs host Oklahoma City at 3 p.m. Nationally-ranked Long Beach State comes to Baum Stadium for a three-game series beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
