Jess Todd Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Jess Todd picked up two wins against No. 1 Vanderbilt over the weekend at Baum Stadium and then snagged SEC Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday the conference office announced.

The junior right-hander out of Navarro College pitched nine total innings in two relief appearances, allowing just three runs on one seven hits while striking out nine.

He pitched the final three innings on Friday night, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks to get the win.

Todd then relieved Dallas Keuchel in the fourth inning on Sunday and pitched the last six innings to notch his second victory over the Commodores. He gave up just one run on four hits in the series-clinching win, while striking out five.

Florida’s Matt LaPorta was named the SEC Hitter of the Week after hitting 7-for-13 (.538) in a sweep of No. 21 Auburn with seven RBI, three homers and three doubles. Tennessee’s Jeff Lockwood was named the Freshman of the Week with a .556 batting average and a 1.111 slugging percentage. He also pitched a perfect ninth inning on Friday in which he retired the side 1-2-3 with a pair of strikeouts to log his third save of the season.
