PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – With one tournament under its belt, the University of Arkansas men’s golf team continues its spring season on Sunday afternoon at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponta Vedra Beach, Fla. The three-day tournament, hosted by the University of North Florida, will be played at the Sawgrass Country Club, host to numerous PGA Tournament Players Championships.
The John Hayt Invitational will showcase a 14-team field in its third annual outing, with six of those squads coming from the Southeastern Conference. Along with the No. 22 Razorbacks, the field includes No. 12 Auburn, No. 55 Coastal Carolina, No. 3 Florida, No. 163 Georgia Southern, No. 153 Jacksonville, No., 8 LSU, No. 106 Mercer, No. 43 North Florida, No. 57 Ole Miss, No. 44 Tennessee, No. 37 TCU, No. 36 Tulsa, No. 124 UAB and No. 30 Central Florida.
"With six teams from the SEC, this tournament should give us a good idea of where we stack up," Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said. "We didn’t play as well as I would have liked in our first tournament, but I expect that we will perform much better in Florida."
The Razorbacks finished eighth in the Battle at the Beach and were led by sophomore Austin Cook who tied for 17th overall at five-over par. The finish was Cook’s third top 20 finish of the season. Freshman Sebastian Cappelen, Arkansas’ stroke average leader at 72.18, was Arkansas’ No. 2 finisher at the Battle at the Beach as he tied for 29th overall. Other Razorbacks scheduled to compete include senior Jamie Marshall, junior Ethan Tracy and sophomore Josh Eure.
Arkansas is slated to tee off beginning at 8:45 a.m. on the first tee and will play its first round with SEC foes Auburn and Tennessee.
