Johnson Named Freshman All-American

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas freshman Joe Johnson added to his already impressive resume on Tuesday when he was named to the Basketball Times Freshman All-American squad.
Johnson joined Gilbert Arenas (Arizona), Troy Bell (Boston College), Joseph Forte (North Carolina) and Jason Kapono (UCLA) on the second team as selected by the publication. The first team consisted of Donnell Harvey (Florida), Jason Gardner (Arizona), Casey Jacobson (Stanford), DerMarrJohnson (Cincinnati) and Jason Williams (Duke).
The Little Rock, Ark., native has already been named the Associated Press SEC Newcomer of the Year as well as second-team All-SEC by the AP. He was selected as SEC Co-Freshman of the Year with LSU’s Torris Bright in a vote by league coaches. SEC coaches also selected him to third-team All-SEC honors and made him a unanimous selection the SEC All-Freshman squad. Johnson was also selected as a member of the SEC All-Tournament team.
Johnson leads the Razorbacks in scoring and rebounding with 16.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season.
