FAYETTEVILLE – Recently hired University of Arkansasassistant head coach and linebackers coach Taver Johnson as well as director of high school relations Jason Shumaker met with the media Tuesday afternoon to discuss joining the Razorback football program.
Coach Johnson, who spent the last five seasons alongside current Arkansas defensive coordinator and secondary coach Paul Haynes at Ohio State, commented about how excited he was tojoin the Arkansas football staff.
"I am extremely excited to be in Arkansas as a Razorback," Coach Johnson said. "My family and I have talked about this situation and the last couple days we’ve been here have been surreal. Being around this campus and the coaching staff and meeting with everyone in the community, we’re very excited and very happy without a doubt."
Shortly after Johnson finished his time with the media, Shumaker answered questions as well. Shumaker comes to Arkansas after spending the previous two years at Midland University as the run game coordinator and head junior varsity coach in 2010 along with the duties as associate head coach and offensive coordinator in 2011. Shumaker stated how thankful he was for the opportunity he was being given by head coach Bobby Petrino to join his staff.
"I’m really excited to be here," Shumaker said. "This is a great opportunity to work for a great staff and a great program with a great tradition. I’m really excited to be here and for the opportunity to work hard and help the program take the next step up."
The Razorbacks will open their 2012 season against Jacksonville State on Saturday Sept. 1.
