Johnson honored by SEC

University of Arkansas sophomore tailback Dennis Johnson has been honored by the Southeastern Conference as the co-Special Teams Player of the Week along with Florida’s Brandon James the league announced Monday.

Johnson got the year off to a fast start for the Razorbacks as he becameone of twoplayers in the nation to return the opening kickoff of a gamefor a touchdown for his team on the first weekend ofthe season.

Against Missouri State, Johnson returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to help the Razorbacks defeat the Bears, 48-10, in Little Rock. Johnson finished the night with two kickoff returns for 115 yards and his average (57.5) currently ranks second in the nation and leads the SEC.

Johnson’s touchdown was the first opening kickoff return for a touchdown in a game for a Razorbacks since Felix Jones went 100 yards against Ole Miss (Oct. 21, 2006). The 91-yard return was the second kickoff return for a touchdown in Johnson’s career and the 18th longest in school history.
