Jones Signs with Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Forward Michael Jones signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Arkansas in a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at Parkview High School in Little Rock, Ark.
The 6-9, 190 pound product will join the Razorback basketball program next fall. Jones enjoyed a remarkable growth spurt that allowed him to go from 6-3 prior to his junior season, all the way to 6-9 as he prepares for his senior campaign at Little Rock Parkview.
“We are very happy to have a letter of intent from Michael Jones,” Arkansas head coach Nolan Richardson says. “Looking at Mike, he is a guy that has grown at least three or four inches since this summer when he came in on a visit. I bet you he is close to 6-10 now. We are going to need that kind of size. He is going to be a young guy so no telling how tall he will get to be. I’m just really happy and delighted we got a kid from the state of Arkansas that can come in and be a Razorback.”
While Jones averaged only 10 points and seven rebounds as a junior, his game has continued to grow in inches and talent. He averaged 20 points and eight rebounds for the Arkansas Wings (AAU) last summer.
“He has a chance to grow and be a very good basketball player,” Richardson says. “Coach Anderson saw him play early in his junior year and he continued to grow not only in height, but in his game. His game got better. His shooting is better. I got to see some of that. We are just happy and glad that he and his parents were able to make a decision. That is what players should be able to do. They should be able to have parents involved in the decision and not just the coach.”
Jones is the only basketball player expected to sign with Arkansas during the fall signing period.
