FAYETTEVILLE — In recognition of their performances at the Missouri Southern Stampede, junior Stanley Kebenei has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Runner of the Week and freshman Aidan Swain has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Wednesday. Kebenei, a Nakura, Kenya, native navigated the 8,000-meter course in Joplin, Mo., in a first-place time of 23:25.75, finishing more than 28 seconds ahead of the field. Kebenei is now 2-for-2 this season having also posted a win in the season-opening race in Fayetteville. Competing in his first season of cross country for Arkansas, Kebenei paced a 1-2 finish for the No. 5 Razorbacks. This is the third award of the season for Kebenei, who was honored previously as the USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week (Sept. 23) and the SEC Runner of the Week (Sept. 10) for his performance at the Arkansas Duals. Swain, a native of Fayetteville, Ark., was the fourth Razorback to cross the finish line and the first freshman to finish from either of the two ranked teams in attendance. This is the first honor bestowed on Swain in his young career. Overall, Arkansas’ crew finished in second place, just one point behind Oklahoma in the team standings. The Razorbacks ran without Kemoy Campbell, David Flynn and Gabe Gonzales, the team’s 2-3-4 runners in the season opener. The Razorbacks now prepare for the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival which will be held on Oct. 5 at Agri Park in Fayetteville. The men’s 8K is slated for a 9:45 a.m. start.
