FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The following is a brief transcript of Ken Hamlin’s press conference on Tuesday.
“I want to say the last couple of weeks have been pretty hard. My family and I have sat down and tried to contemplate on the different moves that I could make and listening to everything that was going on. I’m just trying to go on and see what is next to me. Coach Nutt and the University of Arkansas have been real good to me, and I love Arkansas.
“I have always had the desire to go on to the next level. So with that in mind, I have chosen to enter myself into the NFL draft.”
On his draft potential:
“I have received two assessments from the NFL. One was second or third round and the other was fourth round.”
On making the decision:
“I have been thinking about this for a while. Ever since the bowl game was over with I have had time to go home and sit down with my family and think about it. I have been just taking everything in and getting my mind set to take the next step.
“Going into this year, I had not been playing up to par. I think the last six or seven games, I really excelled and played to the best of my ability. I want to go from there and take that on to the next level.”
On leaving Arkansas:
“It’s very tough. I have a lot of life long friends here, the coaching staff and the University as a whole. I know I am going to have to come back eventually and get my degree. That was one thing that has been on my mind. At the same time, those friends and the University will still be here to stay in contact with. I have a strong relationship with the coaches and the players and that will continue.”
On the advantages:
“I don’t know about any advantages, but I think that my abilities and skills are up to par and I have the ability to play on the next level. So I want to take that and my desire and will and try to make it on the next level.”
On the legacy of Arkansas safeties:
“They have settled them in as the great safeties in the NFL. I am going to try and do that, but I’m going to try and get there first. I have a real long road ahead of me. Just making the decision doesn’t make it any easier. I just have to go out and go to work now.”
