FAYETTEVILLE – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team has finalized its 24-man roster with Arkansas starting pitcher Trey Killian making the squad that will take part in international competition this summer.
Killian is one of 24 players selected to the final roster after making two appearances during the team’s seven-game trials over the last 10 days.
"I was pretty excited when I found out I made the team," said Killian. "I was thankful and humbled to make it past the trials and be on the final roster with the most talented freshmen and sophomores in the country. It’s truly an honor."
Killian was brilliant in his USA Baseball debut, working three innings and striking out seven to earn the win in a 14-2 victory. Team USA ended its Red, White and Blue Tour with a 6-1 record.
"We are thankful for the guys wearing that uniform overseas because they are the ones giving us the opportunity to put this USA jersey on and represent our country. It’s an honor and a blessing to do that."
The Collegiate National Team opens its series against Chinese Taipei at 6:05 p.m. on July 1 at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The teams will play again on July 2 at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C., on July 3 at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C., and on July 4 and 5 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
Team USA will then host a three-game set against Japan July 6-8 in Thomasville, Wilson and Wilmington, N.C., before traveling to the Netherlands for Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, July 11-20. Following that tournament, the U.S. will head to Cuba for a five-game friendship series, July 23-27.
