FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas sophomore right-handed pitcher Trey Killian has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Killian threw his second straight complete game, tossing a career-high 9.0 innings to earn the win in Arkansas’ 2-1 victory over Alabama on Saturday. The Mountain Home, Ark., native registered a season-high seven strikeouts while scattering four hits, with none after the fifth inning. He retired 14 of the final 15 Crimson Tide batters in the game as Arkansas scored once in the seventh inning and once in the eighth to earn the come-from-behind win. In his last three starts, Killian has pitched 24.0 innings and allowed just three earned runs. He is one of two SEC pitchers with multiple complete games in 2014.
Killian’s recognition is the second conference weekly honor of his career and Arkansas’ first of the season. He is the first Razorback to earn Pitcher of the Week since Barrett Astin on April 29, 2013.
The Razorbacks return to Baum Stadium on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Mississippi Valley State. The first game will begin at 3:05 p.m., with the second game following approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Wednesday, the same two teams will play at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.
