Kim Garners SEC Weekly Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After capturing his first collegiate victory over the weekend at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, Arkansas sophomore Charles Kim has been named the SEC Golfer of the Week the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

On his way to medalist honors, Kim paced the Razorbacks to their second team win in the last four tournaments, a 7-shot victory against seven nationally ranked teams, including 2nd-ranked Florida on its home course.

The Cedar Park, Texas, native dominated from his opening tee shot, firing rounds of 68-66-70 – 204 (-6) to secure his first collegiate victory. Down one shot on the final hole of the championship, Kim’s opponent bogeyed 18 to open the door and the sophomore took full advantage.

Kim faced a 170-yard shot from the fairway on 18 and nearly holed a knockdown 6-iron that rolled 10 feet past the flag. He would drain the 10-footer for his 16th birdie of the tournament to clinch his first collegiate title.

Along with medalist honors, Arkansas moved up three spots in the national rankings to check in at No. 26 with four tournaments remaining in the regular season. The Razorbacks have won 24 team titles in head coach Brad McMakin’s 11-year tenure at the helm of the program, including 19 victories in the last six seasons.

Kim and the Razorbacks return to action Feb. 26-28, traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The tournament will feature 10 of the top 30 teams in the nation in what has become one of the most elite fields in college golf.
