Kushner and Palmer Travel to Zones

FAYETTEVILLE –Sophomore Brieanne Kushner and redshirt freshman Madison Palmer are representing the University of Arkansas swimming and diving team at the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Diving Championships in Columbia, Mo., beginning Friday, March 10.

Kushner and Palmer need to finish in the top six to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Competition starts Friday, with the one-meter springboard at 10:00 a.m.

Arkansas diving coach Scott Reich said the Lady Razorback duo has the opportunity to reach nationals if they are confident in their performances.

“If they are consistent they’ve got a chance,” he said. “They are talented enough, yet young, and they’re only going to get better. It only takes one meet to turn the corner.”

Palmer is going to her first zone competition after qualifying on the one-meter springboard with a score of 266.25 against Drury, Oct. 22, in Springfield, Mo. After winning the three-meter event with a season-high score of 287.33, against Kentucky, Dec. 3, Kushner is making her second trip to zones.

Last season, Kushner’s best finish was sixth in the platform event; she also recorded a ninth-place on the one meter and 11th on the three meter.
