Lady?Backs Third After Day Two of SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Denise Bargiachi and Miranda Walker scored 10 points in the 10K for Arkansas Lady Razorback track and field on day two of the SEC Championships, in Auburn, Ala.Arkansas sits in a tie for third with 15 points in the team standings after two days of competition and advanced one harrier to Sunday’s finals in Friday night’s prelims."We got through the day," head coach Lance Harter said. "We gave up 10-15 points that we were hoping for. Paige (Farrell) looked brilliant in her 800-meter prelim. We need to keep the ball rolling tomorrow."In the front pack for the entire 10,000-meter race, Bargiachi battled in a race that was not suited for her running style. With her running partner Catherine White sidelined with an illness, she was on her own in a tactical pace. Holding strong, she finished third with a time of 34:30.99. Walker earned a fifth-place finish and four points with her time of 35:13.26."A pace with an upscale tempo, that’s Denise’s forte," Harter said. "To sit and run a tactical race, she just doesn’t have the same speed as some of the other runners. Miranda (Walker) had a great race. Tactically, she moved up perfectly. She broke off from runners she was supposed and had a very strong finish.""I run better when the pace is quicker earlier," Bargiachi said. "I don’t have as much speed as some of the other girls out there. We missed having Catherine (White) out there in the mix. Expecting her to be there and she wasn’t was hard."Paige Farrell won her prelim heat of the 800 meters. She finished third overall with a quick clocking of 2:06.85. She automatically advanced to Sunday’s finals with her prelim win."I felt really relaxed," Farrell said. "The goal was to get a good time but do whatever it took to get in the top two to automatically advance."Peter-Gaye Beckford finished fifth in the heptathlon with 4,990 points.
