Lady Razorbacks tennis goes 3-1 on final day of Classic

CHICAGO – Senior Audrey Bordeleau prompted a good day by Arkansas at the final day of the Northwestern Wildcat Classic on Sunday.

The Lady Razorbacks went 1-0 in doubles, and 2-1 in singles, all in consolation play. Although the Lady’Backs played only four matches on Sunday, Arkansas assistant coach Jeroen Joling saw good signs from the team.

“I was very pleased with our team going out, performing, and getting some wins today,” said Joling. “Winning matches on the final day of a tournament shows how much energy our girls truly have.”

In consolation of Draw A, Bordeleau had a come-from-behind victory over Minnesota’s Karina Chiarelli, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Bordeleau finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.

Draw B consolation consisted of freshman Delia Demaschin topping Selma Salkovic of DePaul in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. The win pushed Demaschin to a 3-1 record at the Classic.

The final singles match came from sophomore Melissa Hoffmeister in consolation of the Purple Draw, where she was defeated by Mississippi’s Yana Kireeva, 6-3, 6-1, proving to be the only loss of the day for Arkansas. The loss also dropped Hoffmeister’s record for the weekend to 2-1.

The lone match in doubles play was a win as Bordeleau and Demaschin teamed up to top Minnesota’s duo of Karina Chiarelli and Alessandra Ferrrazzi, 8-3. The solo Lady’Back doubles team combined to go 2-1 at the Classic.
