Lady'Back Golf Guide Earns National Runner-Up

FAYETTEVILLE — The 2006-07 University of Arkansas women’s golf media guide was named the national runner-up by the College Sports Information Directors of America at the organization’s national convention in San Diego, Calif., recently. In addition to placing second in the nation, On the Map: The 2006-07 Lady Razorback Media Guide ranked first in District 6, which includes universities from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The golf media guide was written and designed by Assistant Communications Director Jeri Thorpe with editorial assistance provided by Associate AD for Communications Dr. Bill Smith and Administrative Assistant Rebecca Hancock. "It’s truly an honor to be recognized by your peers," said Thorpe. "The media guide is a real staple of what we do. It’s a starting point for countless stories that our area media write as well as an archive of the program’s accomplishments throughout the years. To be honored for producing a media guide that is both usable as well as creative is really great." Thorpe is in her 12th year as a full-time employee with the Women’s Communications Office and works primarily with golf, volleyball and gymnastics for the Lady Razorbacks. It is the second national award for her work. Her golf guide finished sixth in the nation in 1997 and her volleyball guide was also sixth in the nation in 2006. Smith and his staff have earned more than 40 regional and national awards over the past two decades of CoSIDA contests, including Best in Nation or national runner-up.
