Lady’Back golfers eighth at Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE — Junior Amanda McCurdy and senior Sarah Trew each fired a one-over 74 leading the University of Arkansas to a tie for eighth-place after first round action at the 26th Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Monday. McCurdy, an El Dorado, Ark., native, was even through the first nine but picked up a stroke on 15, finishing with a 74. Trew was two-under through 11 but gave up a couple strokes on the back also finishing with a 74. The duo are tied for 19th overall. Junior Courtney Mahon is in the hunt with a plus-two 75. Redshirt freshman Stacy Lewis carded a three-over 76 in her first ever collegiate competition and teammate Lindsey Hinshaw rounded out the Arkansas’ scores with an 80 in her first-ever event. "It’s not a bad start," said head coach Kelley Hester. "This is the kind of golf course we certainly can play well on and shoot some good numbers. I look for us to improve on our 299 tomorrow but this is a good way to start our season." Arkansas’ 299 tied them with Baylor for eighth overall. Georgia leads the field with a 287, followed by New Mexico at 292, and Pepperdine and Oklahoma State are tied for third with rounds of 293. Brigham Young rounds out the top five with a 296. Play continues Tuesday and Wednesday. For more information about Arkansas golf, log on to Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire InvitationalUNM Championship Course Par 73 – 6069 yardsNew Mexico, host
