Lady'Back linksters win Consolation B title

Jump to complete results FAYETTEVILLE – The eighth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team defeated Southern California winning the Consolation B title a the 2005 Hooters Match Play Championship in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla., Sunday. Arkansas got a 3-1-1 win with Amanda McCurdy, Stacy Lewis and Lucy Nunn winning their matches. McCurdy was a perfect 4-0 in Arkansas’ run through the invitation-only event. Courtney Mahon halved her match while Ashley Medders fell 4 and 3. “We played some very, very good golf today against a really good team in Southern Cal,” said assistant coach Shauna Estes. “It was a good experience to handle both a different format and one of the best fields outside of the NCAA Championships.” McCurdy dispatched her opponent Allison Schauppner 6 and 4 leading from the first hole. Lewis defeated Irena Cho 3 and 2 while Nunn downed Dewi Schreefel 3 and 1. Mahon halved her mach with Veronica Felibert and Medders was defeated by Catalina Marin 4 and 3. “I’m pleased with our overall performance this weekend,” said head coach Kelley Hester. “We didn’t play as well as we would have liked on the first day but still picked up some big wins. It was a great way to end the fall.” Second-seeded Purdue defeated fourth-seed Arizona State 3-1-1 for the tournament title in the 16-team field. Teams were invited to the event based on last year’s NCAA Championship finish and 14 of the 16 teams are currently ranked in the Golfstat top 25. Second-ranked and top-seed UCLA defeated sixth-seed and 17th-ranked Texas A&M, 4-1, for third place overall. Eleventh seed and 26th-ranked Florida downed 12th-seeded and 22nd-ranked Tulane, 4-1, winning the consolation bracket. The 2005 Hooters Match Play event is the final of the fall season for Arkansas.
