Lady'Back netters claim runner-up honors at SEC Classic

Atlanta, Ga.—Junior Karina Ledaja and freshman Audrey Bordeleau both claimed runner-up honors in singles flights Sunday to conclude the SEC Fall Coaches Championships in Atlanta, Ga. Ledaja was riding high on an undefeated 3-0 record at the Peachtree Tennis Center going into the C flight championship match against Vanderbilt’s Caroline Ferrell, but fell to the fiery Commodore, 6-1, 7-5. Despite the loss, Karina finishes the fall with a team-leading 12-5 singles record. Bordeleau also went into her D flight title match with an unblemished three straight wins, carrying her momentum into the first set of the championship match. She defeated South Carolina’s Megan McGavick 6-4 in the first, but ran out of gas in the second, losing 6-3. McGavick took the third set, 6-3. “Overall I was pleased with our efforts this weekend,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “We had a good amount of success and look forward to the preparation for our spring season.” In other Lady Razorback action on Sunday, junior Melissa Cornett lost to Kentucky’s Danielle Petrisko, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Allison Linden fell in a three-set bout to Auburn’s Evan Epps. Linden lost the first set to Epps, 6-3, but rallied back in the second set to win, 7-5. It was Epps who took the third set supertiebreaker, 10-6. In the tournament as a team, the Lady’Backs finished 10-10 in singles and 12-15 overall at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic. As they wrap up the fall season, Arkansas captured 71 singles victories in 129 chances and overall tallied 91 victories in five tournaments.
