Lady'Back Softball Set For First Practice

FAYETTEVILLE-First-year head coach Jamie Pinkerton begins his tenure at Arkansas as the Lady Razorback softball team is set to begin its first practice of the season Monday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. at Lady’Back Yard. If needed, the Lady’Backs will practice indoors at the Willard & Pat Walker Pavilion.

Pinkerton said he is thrilled to start practice with the Arkansas squad that returns 11 members including seniors Ashley Carter, Zenobia Davison and Blaire Perry.

“As a staff, we are excited to have them back,” Pinkerton said. “This week we’ll focus on getting back into softball shape and our fundamentals.”

The Lady’Backs welcomed seven newcomers to the roster for the 2005 season. Arkansas travels to California, New Mexico and Texas for tournaments before the home opener at the Lady’Back Invitational, Feb. 26-27.

As a new coach, Pinkerton said that the three weeks of preseason practice are really important in developing his coaching staff’s philosophies.

“This week is a continuation of implementing our system of the things that we didn’t cover in the fall,” Pinkerton said. “We want to fine tune and review the things from the last fall tournament. I’m ecstatic and ready to go.”

The Lady’Backs open the season in San Luis Obispo, Calif., at the Mustang Roundup, Feb. 4-6.
